About the Founder: Fathy Mahmoud

Fathy Mahmoud was more than an artist. He was a visionary whose passion for form, beauty, and craftsmanship shaped Egypt’s artistic and industrial legacy. Born in 1918, Mahmoud graduated from Cairo University’s Faculty of Applied Arts and quickly rose to prominence as one of Egypt’s most influential sculptors. His iconic works, including the “Talaat Harb” statue, the beloved “Aroust El Bahr,” the striking Cairo University sculpture, and the brass statue of King Farouk, remain timeless fixtures in Egypt’s cultural landscape. His artistry earned national acclaim and several prestigious awards, including personal recognition from President Gamal Abdel Nasser.

In 1954, Mahmoud expanded his artistic vision into the industrial realm by founding the Egyptian Porcelain Company (EGPC), the first stoneware factory in Egypt. The factory’s launch marked a turning point in the country’s manufacturing history, drawing the attention of high-ranking officials and social figures alike.

After his passing in 1982, Mahmoud’s legacy was carried forward by his children, who transformed EGPC into one of the largest porcelain tableware manufacturers in the Middle East and Africa. Today, the company ‘Fathy Mahmoud’ continues to honor his dedication to quality and design by supplying premium porcelain to world-renowned hospitality brands such as JW Marriott, Hilton, and Four Seasons. Through every piece created, Fathy Mahmoud’s spirit of artistry and excellence lives on.
